Chinese Studies Center of National Library of China
The Chinese Studies Center of National Library of China was established in 2008, formerly known as the Research Center for Overseas Chinese Studies, which is a documentary service institution integrating reading, consultation and research.
Objectives and Missions
Focusing on the history, current situation and development of Chinese studies abroad, paying attention to research hotspots and achievements, and providing national legislative and decision-making organizations with solid documentary provision and reference services.
Providing scholars and library industry colleagues worldwide with documentary services on Chinese studies relying on the National Library's rich literature collection and service channels.
Integrating domestic and foreign academic information on Chinese studies, developing the collection of Chinese studies documentary resources and improving the utilization rate of literature and the efficiency of literature service.
Carrying out academic activities and promoting academic exchanges in the field of Chinese studies at home and abroad.
Promoting the construction of collections and improving utilization of Chinese studies literature, making the National Library of China a collection, research and service center of Chinese studies literature.
Services and Activities
(I) Reading Services
The Center has a reading room (E6-3, South Area of the National Library of China), which mainly provides reading service. At present, the collection of the reading room includes: about 29,000 Chinese studies books in Western languages compiled after 2004; about 8,000 books in Russian and Japanese compiled after 2012; about 1,200 books in Korean, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Indonesian and Malay compiled after 2016; more than 180 journals in Western, Russian, and Japanese compiled after 2012; and over 3,200 Chinese translations, research monographs, dictionaries and reference books.
(II) Reference Services
The Center accepts requests for literature consultation on Chinese Studies, and provides services such as literature retrieval, cataloging, tracking of specific topics and writing literature review. The center can also cooperate in the construction of e-resources, for example an information database of Chinese studies literature.
Readers can visit the Center's reading room to submit their requests in person, or log on to the Center's website to fill out the "Request Form" online. Readers can also download, fill out and send the Form to sinology@nlc.cn.
(III) Website
The Center's website integrates the functions of presenting academic dynamics, revealing the collections, releasing e-resources, and receiving requests, etc. The main columns include academic dynamics, new arrivals, publications, e-resources and request services. For more details please visit:

Publications
The Center edits and publishes regularly the following three kinds of publications on the Center's website: Documents Information on new monographs and periodicals, Chinese Catalogue on new foreign journals and CSC Newsletter.

The Center organizes the "Chinese Studies Seminar Series" from time to time, inviting renowned scholars all over the world to give lectures on a wide range of disciplines, including politics, economics, society, history and culture, as well as interdisciplinary and comprehensive thematic studies.
